1. This project is a “sleeping action.” Co-coism was invited to be part of a community-curating project leading by Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MOCATaipei).
The starting point was an observation of social phenomena: the homeless. Because MOCATaipei is located at the junction of old Taipei city and new commercial area, this community is full of the different view of the bight and dark sides. Therefore the concept is about an open discussion of how to share and use the public space, and who is the user of those spaces.
We made YOU CAN SLEEP HERE GUIDEBOOK.
In that book, we recorded and fielded the suitable sleeping locations around this area, such as sidewalks, kindergarten entrance, MRT linear park and other 20 sites, as well as analyzed advantages and disadvantages of sleeping sites in that book.
The target is one: providing some prefect location for people to sleep in public space and two: making people to think what the public space is for.
YOU CAN SLEEP HERE REUNION
We three artists acted as three sleeping sheep/hosts to lead a “REUNION”: encouraging participants to encounter each others, sharing unforgettable sleeping stories, doing a “counting sheep song” movement, and making an “anti-insomnia vow” by toasting mouth wash.
After that reunion, every participant started to find a perfect sleeping site and had a good night.
Our further step is planning YOU CAN SLEEP HERE project can be taken abroad, and keep questioning the issue of the right of using public space by fielding research.
