活動介紹|

本活動由計畫主持人張剛華與合作藝術家林正尉、謝詠程,共同前往新竹湖口工業區針對來自印尼的男性移民進行採訪、田調之成果分享。分享會中,藝術家將以動態影像、手繪圖像、聲音等不同面向展現田野檔案,並由特邀王柏偉、袁緒文分別從田野檔案、移民議題等兩個面向回應。

計畫背景|

張國榮,1955年出生於印尼山口洋,國中畢業,會說客家話與印尼語,來自當地的富裕家庭,20歲與陳金妮女士結婚,育有四子,隨後遷居至首都雅加達,再移民至台灣新竹的湖口工業區。其父親、母親分別約在15年、10年前逝世,在印尼山口洋有一份遺產等著張國榮返鄉繼承。但是他沒有繼承,反倒是父母皆逝世後的這些年更常往返台灣、印尼,並提出希望返回印尼定居,但迄今未行。

本次首先聚焦的受訪者「張國榮」,初至台灣時即面臨無法與他人以中文溝通(原生語言為客語,第二語言為印尼語)、育有四子的經濟壓力、國小肄業的教育經歷、來自經濟發展力落後於台灣的印尼等,不同面向的社會參與問題;即便來自於華人文化豐富的印尼山口洋,然而華人文化中賦予男性的傳統責任與性格,卻可能更造就該族群的封閉性,而無法在以「台灣人」產生歸屬感。依此,返向回顧受訪者姓名中的「國」與「榮」,對於國家、族裔、家庭、榮譽、歸屬等不同層面的指涉,是本創研田調計畫企圖前進的方向。「張國榮」作為本次計畫的起點,主持人與合作藝術家將與之進行採訪,並從其社交足跡、勞動參與、消費場所、社交狀況等,依此進行深入觀察且往外延伸,尋找其他的「張國榮」,觀察其面臨的社會處境,並將受訪者的觀察成果相互探討。

The project was facilitated by Chang Kang Hua. He went to his home town in Hu-Kou Industrial District to research the community of male Chinese migrants from Indonesia in Taiwan with cooperating artists Lin Cheng Wei and Nancy Xie.

Tjong Kwet Djoeng was born in Singkawang, the biggest county where the Chinese tribe, Hakka people gathered in Indonesia. His native language is Hakkanese and Bahasa Indonesia. He married Chen Jing Ni when he was 20-year-old, and then moved to Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Thirty-two years ago, he brought his wife and four children to Hu-Kou Industrial District in Taiwan. His parents passed away more than ten years ago, so that he could inherit a fortune from them. However, he didn’t. Instead, he often visited his home village during these years and told his children he would like to move back to Singkawang till now.

The project was focusing on the interviewee Tjong Kwet Djoeng. He met lots of issues when he immigrated to Taiwan, including he couldn’t speak in Mandarin, the highly pressure by financial burdens, education background, and also the discrimination to Indonesian from Taiwanese. Even though, he was from Singkawang, the region rich in Chinese culture, but as a male Chinese, he built a closed community in Taiwan and never got the belongingness in Taiwan. Coincidentally, his name, Kwet means nation, and Djoeng means honor and belongingness revealed these issues he encountered in Taiwan. Tjong Kwet Djoeng is the starting point of this project, and we tried to observe his community to study the situations of male Chinese migrants from Indonesia in Taiwan.
